UPDATE: 1,200 homes without power in Thatcham

Homes in Ilkley Way, Lower Way, Wolsingham Way and the surrounding areas have been without power since 8.40am today (Weds)

UPDATE: Power was restored to 500 of the homes by just before 11am and the other 700 are expected to be back on this afternoon.

ABOUT 1,200 homes in Thatcham have been left without power this morning (Wednesday).

Homes in Ilkley Way, Lower Way, Wolsingham Way and the surrounding areas have been without power since 8.40am.

Spokeswoman for Southern Electric Power Distribution, Samantha O'Connor, said: "We would like to thank residents of Thatcham for their patience during the interruption to the power in Thatcham.

"This is due to a safety trip that has activated on the high voltage network.

"Our engineers are investigating the cause and will restore supplies as soon as possible."

South Thatcham Children's Centre was closed today because of the power failure.
