Update - Exclusive - man dead as car swept away at Headley Ford

Newburytoday reported this morning that emergency vehicles raced to Headley Ford during rush hour to try and rescue two people and a dog from a car after which had been swept 200 yards downstream in flood water.
Hampshire police have confirmed at 12.40pm that the man involved in the incident had died, however a woman was able to escape from the vehicle.
Emergency services were called at 9.12am this morning to reports that a vehicle was stuck in a ford at Thornford Road near Compton Wood.
The woman was taken to Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital where she is being treated for shock.
Road closures are in place while the emergency services respond to the incident and recover the car which is completely submerged.
Eyewitness, Headley villager, Simon Hiscock, told Newburytoday.co.uk that 11 emergency vehicles rushed to the ford in Thornford Road and attempted to rescue the people who were trapped in the Volkswagen car which was totally submerged and upside down.
“A man walking his dogs found them, they were trapped in the car,” said Mr Hiscock. “I was told by a Hampshire fire officer that the man had died and also the dog.”
Hampshire constabulary spokesman, Tim Feltham confirmed earlier that ‘A woman got out and a man was recovered from the vehicle.”
South Central Ambulance spokeswoman, Ngoze Fakeye, confirmed the ambulance services were called at 9.13am to the incident at the ford in Thornford Road. She said a man had been recovered from the vehicle but he could not confirm his condition.
The road is currently closed (11am) in both directions but the A339 remains open.
The incident followed torrential rain yesterday (Sunday), with localised flooding prompting the Met Office to issue a severe weather warning in the region as well as other parts of the UK.
West Berkshire experienced 11.8mm of rainfall between Friday (20) and Sunday, according to the Met office.
More rain is forecast, with spokeswoman for the Met Office, Sarah Holland saying that West Berkshire could see 25-30mm of rainfall in the next couple of days.
The average rainfall for April in total is usually 50.3mm.
Just last Thursday a lorry became stuck in Headley Ford (pictured above) and the occupants of the lorry telephoned recovery services, they were unhurt in the incident. “It was 3ft 6inch deep according to the depth gauge,” said Mr Hiscock speaking last week.
West Berkshire Council confirmed this morning that as well as the Thornford Road closure, Shalford Bridge, between Wasing and Brimpton, is currently closed with diversions via Back lane and Brimpton owing to flooding.
As of 12.45pm Thornford Road remained closed on the Berkshire side and is partially closed on the Hampshire side on the Junction with Swaites Meadow.
