Update: Gales bring down more trees across West Berkshire

More roads blocked due to fallen trees and power cuts, although Met Office issues no severe weather warning for the area

UPDATE - Heath End, East Woodhay, blocked both ways at the village hall because of a fallen tree

UPDATE - As of 10.15am, both roads had been cleared

FOLLOWING Tuesday's gales, more high winds overnight last night (Wednesday) have brought down trees and caused disruption in West Berkshire this morning.

Station Road in Thatcham is currently (9.30am) blocked in both directions between Stoney Lane and Pipers Lane, because of a fallen tree.

Stag Hill (B4001) at Whitelocks Piece in Chilton Foliat is partially blocked near Chilton Foliat School, because of a fallen tree.

However, the Met Office has issued no severe weather warnings and reported that despite blustery weather, sunny spells are expected later on today.

About 70 properties in the east of the district are currently without power following a fallen overhead cable in Burghfield.

The homes in Trash Green and Theale Road are expected to be without power until early this afternoon while Southern Electric fixes the problem.

The fault was found after fire crews from Dee Road and Whitley Wood Fire Stations were called to a small fire this morning at a nearby electricity substation.

They arrived to find it was already out and handed the problem over to Southern Electric's engineers.
