UPDATE: Power not restored in Thatcham until this evening (Weds)

Seven hundred homes still without power after Southern Electric discover serious fault

UPDATE: By 5.15pm Southern Electric had managed to restore the power to the remainder of the homes.

ABOUT 700 homes in Thatcham will be without power until later on this evening (Wednesday) following further problems with the supply.

About 1,200 homes were without power from 8.40am this morning after a safety trip was activated, said Southern Electric.

At about 11am the power was restored to 500 of the homes, leaving the remaining 700 homes in the dark.

A spokeswoman for Southern Electric Power Distribution, Samantha O'Connor, said that there had been complications to restoring the power to the 700 homes.

At about 3pm she said: “Our engineers have discovered a fault on the network which will involve extensive repairs.

“For this reason, we are looking at re-routing the supplies from another section of the network.

“We now expect supplies to be restored early this evening.”

Homes which have been affected include Ilkley Way, Lower Way, Wolsingham Way and the surrounding areas.
