UPDATE: Two vehicle pile ups near East Ilsley junction

Northbound lane closure on the A34 following two collisions earlier today (Wednesday)

UPDATE: Both incidents were cleared at 2.02pm and traffic is now easing.

ONE lane of the A34 (northbound) near the East Ilsley junction has been closed following two vehicle pile ups earlier today (Wednesday).

Thames Valley Police spokesman Adam Fisher said that the first incident happened at 10.24am and involved five cars.

These were a silver Ford Focus, a grey Fiat 500, a white Daff truck, a white Honda CRZ and a grey Audi A3.

No one was injured.

A second collision, which was completely separate but happened just behind the scene of the initial incident, took place at about 10.49am.

It involved three cars: a Honda CRU, a white Volkswagen van and a black Audi A5.

Two fire pumps from Newbury attended the first incident at about 11.46am and they were joined by a pump from Didcot at the second incident at 12.03pm.

Nobody needed to be rescued from any of the vehicles.

Two ambulances from South Central Ambulance Service attended along with a rapid response vehicle.

One person from the first crash took themselves to hospital for checks to minor injuries and two people, one male and one female, were taken by ambulance to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.

The female had a back injury and the male was suffering from chest pains.

Motorists are currently (1.25pm) experiencing traffic delays of about an hour due to the lane closure.

Normal traffic conditions are expected from 2.30pm.
