Inn at Home in Newbury closes after more than 10 years trading on Bartholomew Street

An independent retailer has closed in Newbury town centre this week.

Inn at Home owner David Marklew announced in April the award-winning craft beer, wine and spirits specialist would be closing this month after his lease expired and that he would be retiring.

In a public notice, Mr Marklew said: “We’ve loved being here for the past decade.

“Our customers and suppliers have been awesome, and we will miss them.”

The upmarket store opened its doors on Bartholomew Street more than a decade ago, moving into the unit previously occupied by Kitchenmonger.

It stocked a wide range of beers and wines you “couldn’t find in a supermarket” and offered shoppers guidance on serving and food pairings.

The idea for the store was conceived over a pint of ale by Mr Marklew and his friend Simon Douglas.
