Valentine's Love Notes boost funds for Newbury charity shop

In the run up to Valentine’s Day on Saturday (Feb 14), Love Notes - available at the shop - have returned to brighten the Market Place window of the British Heart Foundation (BHF) shop, helping to boost funds for the charity, for a minumum £1 donation.
Shop manager, Mou Banergee, said yesterday (Wed), there were no proposals nestling amongst a “Good response,” she said of some 25 notes - but plenty of time to make the ultimate romantic gesture, with notes accepted up to the ‘big day’ on Saturday (Feb 14).
Traditional Valentine’s from lovers such as “You warm me in a way being on fire could never quite manage,” nestle alongside cute children’s wording, including “Daddy we love you loads,” together with the mysterious “To my monster,” and notes spanning the generations from grandparents, such as “Our first grandchild.”
Several local businesses, including town centre restaurants and cafes, have muscled in on the heart-shaped action and helped to boost funds, by penning a Love Note.
A ‘lurve’ study across the south east, undertaken by the BHF, which raises funds for research into heart disease, revealed almost three quarters [81 per cent] would choose a romantic gesture over an expensive gift this Valentine’s Day and 20 per cent thought a love letter, or breakfast in bed the most romantic gesture a partner could make.
