Vandals repeatedly damage disabled man's car

Anthony Spokes, aged 57, said his Nissan Qashqai car, specially fitted to enable him and his wife to get around, has been heavily scratched six times while parked in the Willow Close housing block in Newbury.
He said the attacks had made his life a misery he even felt he was the target of a vendetta.
Mr Spokes, who moved into the new Willow Close development when it opened in June, is registered disabled and has suffered with cancer and other health complications for several years.
His wife is also infirm due to illness, and he said the pair have become incredibly distressed by the incidents.
“Every time we go out there in the morning we expect to see something different. We have a really great PCSO here who is doing everything to help us out but it’s really getting to us,” he said.
“We’ve thought about moving it, it seems that for some reason I am being deliberately targeted and we have no idea why. I’m upsetting my wife, and it’s getting me down too.
“We have Incapacity Benefit and things like that but it has cost about £75 a time to get it fixed. We thought at one point Motability was going to take the cars off us but we have got the police involved so that won’t happen now as we have incident numbers.
“Why anyone would do something like this I just don’t know.
A spokesman for Sovereign, Roy Probert, said the housing company would continue to support residents as much as possible during what was an upsetting time.
“Sovereign staff have met the residents of Willow Close and the local PCSO to discuss this problem,” he said.
“We currently have no indication who may be causing this damage. The vehicle has been parked on the public highway with a well-used footpath.
“In an effort to break the cycle of vandalism, we have offered the residents an alternative parking space.”
A spokeswoman for Thames Valley Police Lucy Billen, confirmed that multiple reports of criminal damage to Mr Spokes vehicle had taken place, and that police were investigating.
