Vicar reassures villagers over tree-felling
Around 10 of the 30 trees have so far been taken down at an area of woodland just north of St Mary’s Church at the request of Tim Gwyn-Jones, the owner of the land.
A message on the village’s website last month said that the contractors’ foreman was under the impression the felling was to make way for the church car park.
However, in response, the rector of St Mary’s Church, Rev Rachel Lewis, released a statement to reassure residents that this is not the case.
She said: “A number of villagers have expressed concern over the felling of some trees below the church.
“I am sure that this has been aggravated by the Parochial Church Council's (PCC) decision to look into the possibility of creating a car park between the church and the road.
“Please be assured that the felling was planned some time ago by the landowner in order to thin the spinney and remove a number of dead and dangerous trees.
“The PCC have simply agreed at this stage to look into the project feasibility, and there are many planning hurdles to be overcome.
“Should it ever become a realistic project then villagers will of course be given the opportunity to express their views.”
