Vicar's recipe among Woolton Hill cookbook tastebud ticklers
About 50 contributors and supporters gathered at St Thomas’ church hall, welcomed by a glass of fizz, for the launch of
, by MP Sir George Young, in aid of The Living Stones Project, to refurbish the church hall and St Thomas’ church.
The book’s cover features a print of the painting,
, by Woolton Hill artist, Sharon Perris – who was at the launch, where she donated her painting, to be hung in the hall, on completion of the renovation work.
Recipes nestling between the covers, contributed by hall users, alongside a brief resume on their choice, range from
by the Rev Christine Dale, and
by Woolton Hill Pre-School, to
– a favourite of the late Dorrie Cooper – a former Newbury Weekly News correspondent for the village.
Cooks could also try rustling up Normandy Apple Tart , contributed by Fred Carter on behalf of East Woodhay Twinning Association, or Beetroot, Apple & Ginger Chutney by Yvonne Sonsino.
Guests heard brief speeches by chairman of St Thomas’ church hall committee, Nick Harcourt and James Mitchell, chairman of East Woodhay Parish Council - major sponsors of the book, and then had the chance to sample cakes and tea – made from recipes in the
section of the cookbook.
A huge community effort, the cookbook was the brainchild of the charity’s fund raising committee, led by a five- strong working group comprising Georgie Robertson, Angela Maxwell, Madeleine Jenkins, Carol Currey and Nicole Bentham.
Text was prepared by John Priest, who lays out the parish magazine, Spectrum , with further help on illustrations and lettering from villagers, Simon and Yvonne Sonsino.
