Victims of flooding urged to get involved in flood strategy consultation
In recent weeks, several properties and businesses in West Berkshire have been flooded, particularly in the east of the district such as in Purley-on-Thames (pictured) and Streatley, while a number of local rivers have broken record water levels.
A public consultation has now been launched over West Berkshire Council’s draft Local Flood Risk Management Strategy, and anyone who has been affected by flooding in recent years is being encouraged to provide feedback on the plan.
It focuses on local flooding from surface water, groundwater and ordinary watercourses such as streams and ditches and also considers flooding from main rivers.
The executive portfolio holder for highways at West Berkshire Council, Pamela Bale (Con, Pangbourne) said: “The consultation will ensure that local people have the opportunity to influence how local flooding in West Berkshire is managed, now and in the future.
“I would ask all those who have been affected by flooding in recent years to take the time to respond to this consultation.
“Their comments will provide valuable input to the strategy."
The consultation will run until February 28.
