Video: Christmas past at Newbury store Camp Hopson with that tapping Santa Claus
Christmas at Camps was always a time that the mechanical Father Christmas would appear in the window tapping his stick.
Santa would be standing among the array of items enticing customers into the store to find Christmas gifts.
He underwent a few changes over the years, but once he started tapping at the window you knew Christmas was on the way and the Christmas shop was open and ready for business.
The real Father Christmas would arrive in style and people would start to queue outside the store for those January sales bargains.
Newbury Today has put together some old photographs to revive those memories - plus the tap tap tapping video...
The arrival of the real Father Christmas was a special moment.
And who could forget those hardy souls who slept outside the store to be sure of their place in the sales queue in the hope of snapping up a bargain in the January sales.
The original Father Christmas got a bit threadbare over the years and had to be upgraded.
So here's the tapping Father Christmas, from 2014. With thanks to Jo Berridge who took this video clip.
