Video report: Cheers (and some tears) as insects invade

Crowds in awe as giant horrors stalk town centre streets

THE BALEFUL glare of giant red eyes in a huge praying mantis was the first glimpse.

Then other horrors hove into view, their spindly gait unnervingly life-like.

It was all too much for one or two younger spectators, who buried their heads in Dad's shoulder or even burst into tears.

Insectes - the globe-trotting phenomenon fuelled by little more than pedal power and batteries - was in Newbury town centre last night.

And the streets were heaving with awe-struck families.

If you missed the spectacle, don't worry.
