Video report: Sun smiles on Hungerford in time for carnival

Hundreds line the streets before heading to The Croft to party

PHEW! After a day of grey skies and pouring rain, Hungerford basked in carnival sunshine.

The heavens had opened earlier, with sunshine forecast from 7pm.

But, as if on cue, a clear blue sky appeared as entrants put the finishing touches to their floats at John O'Gaunt Community Technology College.

Hundreds of people, young and old, lined packed pavements along the route as pirates, Flintstones and other cartoon characters paraded.

Afterwards it seemed as if the whole town packed into The Croft to let its hair down and party.

The evocative smell of hog roast was on their air as rock band Roadhouse kicked off the party.

District councillor David Holt (Con, Hungerford) said: "Hungerford is a beautiful town with a wonderful community spirit and occasions like this remind us of that."
