Video report - Troops descend on Eastbury for a welcome delivery of sandbags

Around 30 soldiers from the 4 Rifles, Bulford, left their base at the Newbury Weekly News offices shortly after 2pm to provide residents with further protection of their homes.
This was the second time the troops had had a presence in Eastbury, having also assisted West Berkshire Council and Newbury MP Richard Benyon in delivering sandbags on Sunday.
Residents Madeleine and Dennis White said their property had so far been saved from flooding thanks to the efforts of the military.
“Because of the army and the sandbags they have kept me dry,” said Mrs White, adding that her main concern was that if the River Lambourn began flowing over the bridge close to her property the whole village was likely to flood.
Mr White added: “If it really comes down tonight we are going to be in really dire trouble.
“There will be five of us completely washed out.”
The Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) along with the West Yorkshire Fire Service, which has been called in to assist with flooding operations, were also in Eastbury today, helping residents to move their possessions to higher levels, putting vulnerable members in touch with other members of the community and providing reassurance to villagers.
Station manager from the RBFRS headquarter, Michael Griffiths, said that the fire service had had a presence in Eastbury every day since Friday.
They had also visited Newbury and Lambourn today (Thurs).
A number of river levels across the district have fallen due to today’s sunny weather, however the Met Office has warned that further downpours are on the way.
It has issued a 27-hour yellow warning for rain from 6am tomorrow, with between 10mm and 20mm of rain expected to fall.
While a yellow warning for wind, which was due to come into force tomorrow, has been removed, gusts of up to 50mph are expected.
The Met Office is warning people to be prepared for travel disruption and power cuts as trees may uproot in the strong winds.
No warnings have so far been issued for Sunday or Monday.
