Crowds enjoy sunny day out at Chieveley Fete
This weekend saw the saw the return of Chieveley Fete to the village recreational centre for the second year.
Hundreds of people braved the heat and turned out to enjoy all that was on offer at the event on Sunday afternoon (June 22).
Chris Prosser, headteacher of The Downs School and Sixth Form, opened the fete.
He was given a warm welcome and then a chance to cool off with a stint in the stocks, with students of all ages throwing wet sponges at him.
The fete featured swing boats and bouncy castles for the children along with plenty of sports and games.
Tombolas provided endless supplies of sweets and teddies and a wide array range of stalls offered games, paintings, jewellery, keyrings and more.
Face painting was offered at the Primary School PTA stall, including designs by renowned local artist Gail Davis.
Chieveley Cricket Club ran its usual BBQ, and the bar was well stocked and busy serving pints of beer and Pimm’s all afternoon.
Cream teas were served at pretty tables for those who wanted a rest from shopping at the various local artisan stalls.
Music was provided throughout the afternoon with village favourite Dean Dyson delivering a headline act on a welcome return visit to Chieveley.
Jolly tunes from Cold Ash Brass, Chieveley Primary School choir and Peasemore Ukulele Group completed the musical lineup.
Visitors were also treated to a display of classic and performance cars and motorbikes.
Many entered their pets into a Fun Dog Show provided by Rosie’s Pet Care.
The event was carefully put together by a committee of hard-working volunteers guided by Kirsty Heath.
This year’s fete had four official beneficiaries: The Downs School, West Berks Foodbank, Chieveley Recreational Centre and St Mary’s Church, Chieveley.
