Mortimer group knits more than 100 goods to support hospice fundraiser

A village group has knitted a beautiful range of items to support an annual hospice fundraiser.

Members of the Warm Welcome group delivered 130 knitted chicks and rabbits, with cream eggs inside, to the Alexander Devine Children's Hospice Service in Maidenhead on Monday morning (February 24).

The items took four weeks to knit.

The hospice will sell each one for £3 as part of its Big Chick Knit campaign to support young people with life-changing conditions and their families.

Patsy Stone, who runs Warm Welcome, explained this is the second time the group has supported the hospice since it opened in Mortimer two years ago, largely to support residents affected by the cost of living crisis.

“It is so important for us all to come together, and we have younger members as well,” she said.

“We have loads of activities on the go all the time.”

The group meets at Mortimer Methodist Church Hall every Friday from 9.30am to 12.30pm.

Members take part in a range of games, crafts activities, chair exercises and other knitting project, including a nativity scene displayed in the hall last Christmas.
