Newtown Village Hall transformed after 20 years of disrepair and disuse

The efforts of residents and the generosity of local organisations has breathed life back into a village hall that had fallen into disuse over the past 20 years.

Newtown Village Hall, located in Newtown Common, has been transformed in the last 18 months after a new team of trustees took over the running of the hall, which is a registered non-for-profit charity.

The hall fell into disuse due to a lack of parking space, disabled access problems, outdated facilities and a tired and neglected appearance.

The trust has overseen the construction of a new parking area, ramp and handrail, as well as an overhaul of the heating system within the hall, a new interior paint job and the purchase of new furniture and kitchen appliances.

A new outside patio area along with an external serving hatch have also been built to facilitate outdoor events in the summer.

Chair of trustees Tom Reseigh said: “These improvements were only possible thanks to the fantastic support from local residents, Newtown Parish council, councillor Tom Thacker, property developer Stanley John, Oliver Byng at Castle Windows and especially the wonderful team at the Good Exchange, Greenham Trust.

“The Good Exchange provides brilliant support for community projects such as this and we are so grateful for their help.

“The trustees are delighted that Newtown Village Hall is once again seen by the community as an attractive and welcoming place to rent out and to use. After all, that’s what it’s there for.”
