West Berkshire Council planners refuse new outbuilding in Lambourn High Street
A BID to replace an outbuilding at a village High Street home has been scuppered by planners.
The application was for the new structure to replace the existing timber garage at 29 High Street in Lambourn.
The new building was to comprise a home office and workshop together with covered parking.
But a conservation officer's report warned: "The proposal would fail to preserve the setting of 31 High Street and Windsor House, and would fail to either preserve or enhance the character and appearance of the Conservation Area.
"In this way the proposal would have a harmful effect on the significance of these Grade II listed buildings and on the character and appearance of the Conservation Area."
Lambourn Parish Council lodged a formal objection with planners citing similar concerns.
A planning officer's report stated: "The contemporary form and scale of the structure and use of modern materials and detailing would be incongruous and out of keeping with the character and appearance of the Conservation Area."
