Kingsclere McColl’s announces closing date

A village convenience store set to close has announced its final day of operation.

McColl’s on Swan Street in Kingsclere will be closing on Thursday, July 6, the business revealed on its Facebook page last week.

Last November, Morrisons announced its plans to sell 28 McColl’s stores to appease the Competition and Markets Authority after the supermarket giant took over the newsagents’ chain.

One of the sites on the chopping block was the Kingsclere store.

The shop will eventually re-open as a Londis on an unknown date, but it will go through a period of refurbishment before that happens.

The staff at McColl’s were recently honoured at Kingsclere’s Making a Difference Awards for the service they provided throughout the pandemic and the assistance they give to customers with mobility issues.
