Prince of Wales in Kintbury to be converted to private home
PLANNING permission has been granted to convert a former village pub into a home.
The Prince of Wales in Kintbury has been vacant for 18 months and has become "very dilapidated" according to the application.
A design and access statement supplied with the proposal stated: "The change of use to a dwelling will remove a nuisance neighbour for all the adjoining residential properties in Newbury Street whilst retaining, unaltered, the character of the conservation area".
Two letters of support from local residents were sent to planners, who concluded: "Given the trading conditions, and the reliance of The Prince of Wales due to its size and constraints as a wet led pub, and the need for extensive renovations...it is not a viable enterprise".
A planning officer's report added: "The proposal, given the limited external alterations to the building, will not have a harmful impact on the character and appearance of the building, or the Conservation Area street scene, or to the setting if the adjoining grade II listed building, White Lodge.
"In addition there may be benefits to the residential amenity of the area, as the potential noise and disturbance will be removed".
