Beedon throw barn dance for Queen's Platinum Jubilee
A West Berkshire village celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee by throwing a barn dance on the evening of Thursday, June 2.
Over 300 people attended the Beedon barn dance, which saw the village come together for a night of music, games and festivities.
Organised by Beedon residents Maureen Benedict and Brenda Roullier, several other villagers chipped in so the event ran smoothly and the evening was enjoyed by all.
Posting in the Beedon Life Facebook group, Mrs Roullier said: “I think all will agree with me that it was an amazing evening.
“Our small and somewhat spread out village of Beedon, celebrated our amazing Queen Elizabeth II, in a typical English farm barn with kind permission of John Gent.”
As well as a DJ (Ian Simmons) and a dancefloor, the barn dance also featured face painting, a selfie frame for photos, children’s games, a quiz and an impressive Union Jack cupcake display.
The Coach pub, which is set to re-open in the next few months, provided a bar for the evening, and Sarah’s Grill provided a barbecue.
The event was funded by the Beedon Parish Council, which also provided for residents to have a meal and two free drinks.
Chairman of the parish council Steve Price raised a toast to the Queen before the national anthem was sung by those in attendance.
Mrs Roullier then invited Mr Price to the first dance while encouraging members of the audience to join in.
