Hampstead Norreys residents were angered by a road closure that disrupted their morning school runs on Monday.

Water Street in Hampstead Norreys is partially closed so that Thames Water can carry out the renewal of its main supply and other associated works, but the entire street was affected by the closure on Monday morning.

One Hampstead Norreys resident complained of the closure in the village’s Facebook group on the morning of Tuesday, May 10 stating: “Absolute chaos trying to leave our homes this morning where Thames Water are redoing pipe work.

“They blocked both ends of Water Street and told us the other end was unblocked and it wasn’t so we were all reversing up and down the road like headless chickens.”

The problem has since been resolved, with the closure now only affecting the north section of Water Street.

The closure is expected to last until Thursday, May 19, and a diversion route has been established via the B4009 and up the road that leads to Compton.

Residential access will be maintained throughout and the diversion will be signed on site.
