Tilehurst school celebrates Culture Day

Last week, the Little Heath School Diversity Society organised a series of events and activities to embrace and celebrate their differences.

The series kicked off on Wednesday, April 26, with a Cultural Celebration Evening.

Pupils across all year groups at the Tilehurst school showcased music and dance from their country of origin.

And on Friday, April 28, staff and pupils were invited to dress in cultural dress or the colours of their flag, and to try sweet treats and snacks from across the world.

All students also took part in a house competition, where each tutor group had to work through a booklet to learn about their allocated country, an ideal opportunity for pupils to learn from and embrace each other’s cultures.

All proceeds from ticket sales, food stalls and the dress down day exceeded £1,600.

The Diversity Society chose to split the funds between the Reading Community Learning Centre and ACRE (Alliance for Cohesion and Racial Equality).

Both charities support people from all cultures and work to eliminate discrimination and promote positive relationships between communities.
