Award-winning children's author Jenny Pearson officially opens Kintbury St Mary Primary School library

KINTBURY St Mary Primary School library has been officially opened by award-winning children's author Jenny Pearson.

The Wiltshire-based writer spent time with pupils, discussed what it was like being a professional writer and signed copies of her books, including her latest: Grandpa Frank’s Great Big Bucket List.

The school’s new library has been funded by the school community and is supported by the independent Hungerford Bookshop.

Thanks to a generous grant from The Miss Lawrence Trust and Kintbury Parish Council the school has bought and installed new shelving, rugs and a new library computer system.

Additional funding, raised from a Tesco Community Grant scheme, will go towards new books.

Last October the school ran a sponsored read and community book pledge project which generated nearly £2,000 in donations and good quality books.

Also, parent volunteers have spent many hours going through the old book stock and discarding old items which no longer have relevance to local pupils.

Also, parent volunteers have spent many hours going through the old book stock and discarding old items which no longer have relevance to local pupils.

Many of those books, which were in good condition, have been boxed up and donated to Books2Africa, a charity which has the dual aim of improving the quality of education in Africa and reducing the quantity of books going to landfill.
