“There have been recent issues with staffing levels at the local delivery office,” said a Royal Mail spokesperson.

“This has, in part, been caused by high levels of sick absence.”

But the company confirms every effort is being made to keep the resulting days to a minimum and that it has plans to recruit additional staff soon.

The spokesperson added: “We have plans in place for additional recruitment with additional staff members starting soon and expect the service to improve moving forward.

“We are sorry to residents in Compton who have experienced delays.

“Improving the quality of service is our top priority and we are committed to restoring service levels to where our customers expect them to be.”
