Theale to celebrate official opening of new outdoor facilities
This weekend will see the opening of a new play park, multi use sports area and outdoor gym at Theale.
The new area will be officially opened on the Recreation Ground on Sunday, April 16, from 2pm.
And leading the unveiling will be Reading FC defender and Berkshire Youth's charity ambassador, Tom Holmes.
The official opening and free community event includes: a treasure hunt in the playpark for under 10s with a small free prize; sporting activities and games on the multi sports area provided by Berkshire Youth for children aged 10-16; and advice and demonstrations by a local personal trainer on how to use the outdoor gym equipment safely for anyone over the age of 14.
Proludic, the main contractor for the new facilities, has also donated 150 free ice creams and 80 goody bags to give away to children attending the event on a first come, first serve basis.
Chair of Theale Parish Council, Paul Clifford, said: "After two years in the making, I am really excited that Theale Parish Council is opening our brand-new multi-use sports area and refitted playground on the Recreation Ground.
"Proludic proposed the design, which has been tuned through consultations with the local community, resulting in an area that meets local needs.
"The area has been built to be a fully inclusive, safe and enjoyable space for all ages and abilities to participate in physical outdoor activities.
"The MUSA is state of the art and features a zip wire glider, outdoor gym equipment, street fitness area and social area adjacent to a multi-use court, which can be used for a variety of activities including basketball, football, and netball.
"I am really pleased the area is free to use for the whole community on a turn up and play basis."
Mr Clifford added: "The facility has been funded through multiple channels including the building community infrastructure levy, grants, school fundraising, a bequest and parish council funds.
"The building of this facility is an example of what can be achieved with collaboration between the parish council, local community and suppliers, and I would like to take this opportunity thank everyone who has made it possible.
"I hope everyone enjoys the facilities for many years to come."
Tea, coffee and squash will be served in the Peter Gooch Room.
