Villagers prepare for Basildon Show




Prize winning vegetables, vintage vehicles and flying footballs will all be a part of the Basildon Show

THERE will be prize winning vegetables, vintage vehicles and flying footballs at the Basildon Show today.

The traditional country flower and vegetable show combined with fete will kick off at Basildon Village Hall and Recreation Ground from 1pm today.

Basildon Horticultural Society judging panel will be accepting fruit, vegetables, preserves, needle work, photography and handicrafts at 9am with a presentation for the winners at 3.30pm.

Other clubs and societies will also be represented, including the village tennis club who will be holding its annual summer show junior tournament from 2pm.

New village football club, Basildon Barbarians, who play in the men's Reading and District Sunday League, are inviting visitors to take on their players in a penalty shoot out with the chance of winning a number of prizes.

There will also be a falconry display, tug of war, vintage vehicles, children's games and refreshments.

The show is expected to go on until 4.30pm.
