The 108-year-old bottle of 1905 Hennessy Grande Champagne Cognac was the rarest bottle in a sale of spirits by Donnington Priory, with fine and rare Armagnac, Cognac and malt whiskies also included in the Dreweatts and Bloomsbury Auctions sale.
The Cognac – presented to William H Gollings, the owner of Mill House and winner of the 1963 Hennessy Gold Cup held at Newbury Racecourse – was bought by a private collector from the local area who bid in the room at the auction.
