Vintage year for vehicle club as it ups charity donation
The event in August raised £12,241 for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research, exceeding organisers hopes of beating last year's total of £8,000.
In accepting the cheque last Monday, the chairman of the Newbury branch, Les Taylor, said: "I’m delighted to be able to receive and pass on such a large donation to LLR. The West Berks Classic Vehicle Club (WBCVC) have once again worked so hard to put on a fantastic classic vehicle show.
"At a time when a lot of charities are reporting a down turn in donations the WBCVC have been able to increase their donation figure by a whopping 36 per cent on last year. The 2013 show was the biggest in the events history.
"The donated money will go towards innovative research into blood cancers, which in turn inspires new treatments and better care. "
Club secretary Matthew Spencer said the amount raised was a terrific effort from everyone involved and thanked the public for helping to raise so much money.
