Thatcham’s very own virtual reality gaming centre has opened today (June 17).

Gamers can now literally get into their favourite games at MeetspaceVR, which sits in an industrial estate on Pipers Lane.

Players can enter a free roam virtual reality zone (Zero Latency), equip with guns, and immerse themselves in a post-apocalyptic world.

Zombie Survival isn’t the only mission available, players can embark on a variety of quests from taking on a military space station, undead arena or enchanted forests.

MeetspaceVR CEO John Lilley said: "Gaming is better when you bring people together. Our experiences are not just for gamers, they are immersive, instinctive experiences that friends, family and colleagues can do together.

"We really look forward to seeing people play, scream and triumph together."

He said that he's often asked why Thatcham was his location of choice.

"I've always had an affinity to the local area having lived in Bradfield Southend and our wedding was at the Wasing Estate," he commented.

"My favourite pub is The Rowbarge. I've coached my daughter's football team for eleven years and travelled to every corner of the region.

"It is that team sport element that really differentiates what we do."

The gamers are assisted by a 'games master' who aids and advises groups as they travel through their virtual worlds. They are there to provide clues, prompts and give a heads up when players are too close to each other or real walls.

Game master Beth said: "When I first heard about meetspaceVR I knew I wanted to apply for a job. If Carlsberg did jobs this would be it."

She added: "It's so rewarding seeing people fully immersed and escaping the everyday, everyday."

Meetspace VR also has branches in Birmingham, Wembley and Nottingham.
