Vodafone World of Difference launched at Racecourse
Also speaking at the event were Falklands veteran Simon Weston and Lisa Potts, a former nursery teacher noted for saving her school children from a machete attack in 1996 in Wolverhampton.
The 500 volunteers will get paid to work for their chosen charities, either for two months full-time, or for three months part-time.
World of Difference Ambassador Gok Wan comments; “The Vodafone World of Difference programme is vitally important as it benefits smaller charities who have limited access to manpower. It is great to see even in its third year people are so eager to take part.”
Now in its third year, Vodafone World of Difference has benefited hundreds of charities around the UK, Ally Stevens, a Vodafone spokeswoman, said.
She said that of the people who took part last year, 79% are still involved with their chosen charity, giving the charity a long-running boost.
A spokeswoman for one of the charities that benefited last year, Pauline Leeson from Holly Hedge Animal Sanctuary in Bristol, said: “The Vodafone World of Difference programme does wonderful work to help charities. The manpower is invaluable and several winners have stayed in touch with us and have continued to lend their support to the charity.”
