Here’s how to get a free family ticket to Newbury fireworks: Plea for volunteers to help steward event at Newbury Racecourse
With just three weeks to go, organisers of Newbury’s annual fireworks display are putting out an urgent plea for volunteer stewards.
And they promise that anyone that comes forward to help will get a free family ticket so their loved ones can enjoy all the whizz, pops and bangs of the event too.
The Newbury Lions-organised fireworks spectacular will again be held at Newbury Racecourse and this year has a spooky theme, being held the day after Hallowe’en on Saturday, November 1.
Gates will open for the Fireworks Spooktacular at 5pm, with the display starting at around 7.30pm.
“The display will happen but it won’t be easy unless we can get a lot more people to help,” said organiser Margo Payne.
“We need at least 20-30 people to volunteer.
“All the main roles are filled by Newbury Lions members or past volunteers but we just need more people for ‘crowd control’.
“We just don’t know how many people we will get coming along for the event, so we always have to cater for the maximum number.”
Volunteers will need to arrive by 4.30pm for a safety briefing and will be finished by 8.30pm.
This year sees two bars, street food, a rodeo bull and Mr Muddle the magician.
Tickets are available from the stall in Newbury Market throughout October, as well as at Tesco in Pinchington Lane and Northbrook Street and the Newbury Building Society branches in Newbury, Thatcham and Hungerford.
Tickets cost: Family - £30 (2 adults and 2 children or 1 adult and up to 4 children); Adults - £14; Children - £7; Under 5 – free.
Free parking is available at the racecourse.
