Volunteers praised for tidying up Tadley




Local residents thanked for helping clean up Tadley Common

TADLEY Common is looking tidier, thanks to the recent efforts of volunteers.

"On a beautiful summers afternoon over 20 volunteers met at

Tadley Common, armed with litter pickers with an aim to protect this wonderful area from the threat of fire," said

organiser, Nigel Quelch, one of the trustees of the common and also a Tadley town councillor.

The volunteers on Sunday, July 3, comprised of trustees, local residents, members of the Tadley Youth Council and pupils from Tadley Horizon school, who between them collected

13 sacks of rubbish.

"It was great to have so many people turn up for this first event and we hope that the number of volunteers will

grow throughout the summer," said Mr Quelch.

He thanked all the vounteers, plus Kings DIY for supplying the heavy duty gardening gloves, County Hire and the Atomic Weapons Establishment for the high visibility tabards and also Tadley Town Council for the litter pickers and for removing the sacks of rubbish.

The Friends of Tadley Common will repeat the exercise, meeting at the Tadley Common car park at 2pm tomorrow (Sunday).
