Newbury Soup Kitchen is searching for a volunteer cook

Newbury Soup Kitchen is on the hunt for a volunteer cook, writes Fiona Paus.

Meryl Praill, founder of Newbury Soup Kitchen, says the service is in high demand and needs an extra pair of hands.

“We receive donated food and turn it into wonderful meals throughout the week," she said. "We have a wonderful team in the kitchen but we need a little more help on our busy days, the sessions are getting busier and there is a lot of work behind the scenes that needs to be done.”

The organisation is searching for someone to get involved on Thursdays at the kitchen in Hambridge Lane. They would help with preparing and boxing up the food, so a love of cooking and teamwork is helpful.

The sessions are run at the Salvation Army Hall, Northcroft, by a team of committed volunteers and outreach workers and their goal is to provide nourishing provisions and care for those in need.

One of the clients said they were hugely thankful for the volunteers and all they did for them.

"I'd like to say I am very grateful to you all," they said. "You really do make a massive difference to those that you help, What you all do is genuinely life saving. Thank you.”
