Vote for your welcoming theatre

Last year, The Watermill theatre was shortlisted for the UK’s My Theatre Matters Most Welcoming Theatre Award. More than 225 arts venues entered and some 55,000 people voted. The Bagnor theatre is calling on its audience members and everyone who gets involved with activities at The Watermill to show support by voting again this year.
Voting for the Most Welcoming Theatre Award is now open and closes on September 29. The winner is to be decided by public vote and will be announced at a ceremony in London’s historic Guildhall on October 19.
Alongside the care that is given to visitors to the theatre, the award – given by the Theatrical Management Association My Theatre Matters Campaign in association with Smooth Radio – is encouraging audience members and the local community to recognise the importance of their local theatre.
The UK Theatre Awards are the only nationwide awards to honour creative excellence and outstanding achievement on and off stage, throughout England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
The Watermill’s tiny 220 seat auditorium hosted 58,000 people who saw a show at the theatre during 2013-2014, with a further 4,700 seeing a production on tour in the UK. Alongside this, 13,000 people participated in The Watermill’s outreach and education work, including youth theatre groups, adult acting classes, scratch choirs, and business training delegates.
