Waitrose delivers healthy eating lesson
Fifty-four pupils from Castle School, Newbury, Speenhamland Primary School, Newbury and the Post-16 unit at Newbury College headed to the store on Friday for lessons with six Waitrose partners.
Three stalls were erected around the store, dealing with portion sizes and food balance, healthy alternatives, and taste tests.
The personnel manager at Waitrose Newbury, Catherine Knight, said that the event was a huge success and was thoroughly enjoyed by staff and pupils alike.
She said: “It was a real good thing for the pupils to do and for us, working in the community.
“It’s something that the children enjoyed, but the partners enjoyed giving the information.”
She added that the store was considering running similar events in the future, following several enquiries from other schools and the public on the day.
