Strong winds are expected to batter the district this weekend.

A yellow weather warning for wind will be in force from 8pm tomorrow (Sunday) until 6pm on Monday.

But it is not expected to become a named storm.

The Met Office said that strong west or south-westerly winds will develop more widely inland during Monday morning.

“Gusts of 45-55 mph are expected widely inland,” the warning added.

Newbury Business Improvement District (BID) warned traders yesterday (Friday): “On Monday, it is due to be exceptionally windy, with expected wind gusts reaching 48mph

“In the interests of safety, please may you kindly bring in any freestanding A Boards on Monday.”

The winds are expected to cause some disruption to travel and there are warnings of power cuts.
