Watch hail storm in Newbury, as yellow weather warning for wind remains in place

Newbury has been hit by rain, hail, thunder and lightning in the past few hours.

The hail this morning (Monday) left the streets of the town looking like they had been blanketed in snow.

A yellow weather warning for wind has been extended by the Met Office and is now in force across West Berkshire and North Hampshire until 6am tomorrow (Tuesday).

A yellow warning for rain also covers Hampshire, right up to the West Berkshire borders, and is in place until 10am tomorrow (Tuesday).

The Met Office warns that “strong and gusty winds may bring some disruption”.

It adds that “delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely”, with power outages also possible over the next 24 hours.

“A period of strong and gusty southwesterly winds is likely to affect southern parts of England and Wales through Monday and at first on Tuesday,” the Met Office says.

“Gusts to 60 or 70 mph are possible near the coast, with gusts of 50mph possible inland. Winds will gradually ease from the west on Tuesday morning.”
