Thames Water leak sinks road in Calcot, with West Berkshire Council saying they don’t know when it will be repaired

A water leak has sunk part of a busy village road.

West Berkshire Council says Thames Water has fixed a leak in Royal Avenue, Calcot.

But the leak has left part of the road between Windsor Way and Marlborough Way visibly sunken — posing a potential risk to pedestrians and motorists.

“It's absolutely ridiculous it hasn't been sorted yet,” said local resident, Eddie Tott.

“This is a bus route and a busy school route and drivers can't see the hole until they are on top of it.

“You now have to cross to the other side of the road to avoid the sunken part.”

Mr Tott explained residents have moved barriers from the path to prevent drivers and cyclists from crossing the sunken section.

“It is only a matter of time before an accident occurs,” he added.

A West Berkshire Council spokesperson confirms Thames Water has fixed the leak, but cannot yet confirm when the road will be repaired.

They said: “Thames Water has fixed the leak and we have currently provided the barrier to keep the area safe.

“We cannot give a definitive date of repair, but we are working with Thames Water to ensure the necessary remedial works are completed as soon as possible.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”
