Newbury Royal British Legion denies ‘rumours’ it is closing and being sold to build flats

Newbury Royal British Legion is denying “vicious rumours” that its clubhouse in Pelican Lane is due to close and be converted into flats.

Branch chairman Keith Williams rejects the claims, which he says were brought to his attention by a concerned member after being posted on social media.

The claims follow on from the Newbury Weekly News being recently contacted by someone wrongly alleging the club had closed and a member of staff had stolen from the club, which Mr Williams says is also entirely ficticious.

The club is also recruiting new staff and introducing a new food menu in a couple of weeks, so has no intention of going anywhere anytime soon.
