More people returning to adult courses in West Berkshire

Adult learning numbers are returing to pre-Covid figures in West Berkshire.

Class sizes are on the up for both digital and face-to-face courses.

In line with national figures, West Berkshire has seen growth in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) provision, with around 38 per cent of learners from minority ethnic groups.

Over the last year, the team and 18 learning providers have enabled 1,622 adults to enrol on courses of their choice.

Of those learners, 215 were 60+ and 259 have learning difficulties/disabilities. In total, 253 courses were delivered across the district.

“We’re very proud to have helped so many people back into learning," said Heather Codling (Lib Dem, Chievley and Cold Ash), West Berkshire’s executive member for children, education and young people’s services. "We work hard to ensure that our adult learning is accessible to all so that we can help as many people as possible.

“There’s no doubt that being an adult learner can be tough. Our brilliant Learner Achievement Awards are testament to the determination and effort needed and these impressive figures confirm that, no matter your age, background or qualifications, you’re never too old to pick up new skills.”
