Weather and flooding alert for south east
The Environment Agency (EA) is advising those living in the South East to be prepared for possible flooding, due to strong winds and heavy rain showers forecast for tonight (Friday) and Saturday (Dec 21/22).
Widespread and heavy rainfall will fall onto catchments that are wet or saturated following the recent rainfall across the region.
This may cause flooding of low-lying land and roads in the area, with ten flood alerts in force across the South East region, none currently (2.30pm Friday) in the Newbury area.
The EA has urged anyone going away for the festive period to check the flood situation and take precautionary steps - such as moving valuable items to safety, before travelling.
People are also urged to check the flood risk situation for their journey and at their destination.
David Bedlington, Regional Flood and Coastal Risk Manager at the EA, said: “Those who live in an area vulnerable to flooding should think about the precautions they can take to limit the damage a flood can cause to themselves and their property.”
The EA provides a free of charge, 24-hour flood warning service:
- which gives advance warning of flooding by telephone, mobile, fax or pager.
To register/for the service, for advice on possible property flooding, contact
