Motorway closure: M4 closed from J14 Hungerford to J13 Newbury this weekend to finish concrete repairs
National Highways has announced it will be utilising the contingency weekend to finish works between J13 and J14 of the M4.
Work on the westbound carriageway is now complete, but due to additional concrete repairs and to finish replacing the waterproofing material, they will be utilising the contingency weekend closure on the M4 eastbound carriageway only.
The M4 eastbound carriageway will be closed from junction 14 to junction 13, from 9pm tomorrow (Friday) to 6am on Monday.
Repairs are taking place to the bridge which carries the M4 over Welford Road – near Wickham, West Berkshire – which is damaged due to water leaking through the joints.
To ensure the bridge remains in a safe condition, National Highways is reconstructing the central reservation; replacing the joints across the M4 motorway; replacing the waterproofing material below the carriageway surface; resurfacing the M4 across the bridge; and upgrading the safety barrier along the M4 verges.
