West Berks braces itself for the return of the heavy rains

The Met Office has put a yellow warning for rain in place for West Berkshire on Friday and Sunday, with heavy rain forecast throughout the entirety of both days, while heavy showers are also expected between 3pm and 9pm on Saturday.
While river levels in the district have been dropping, a number of flood alerts and warnings are still in place.
An amber flood alert still applies for the River Thames between Pangbourne and Purley and for the River Pang from East Ilsley to Pangbourne and Sulham Brook.
The River Kennet also still has amber flood alerts in place for its tributaries from Berwick Bassett down to Newbury and also from Thatcham to Reading.
The same alert is also still in place for the River Lambourn and its tributaries from Upper Lambourn down to Newbury, however the red warning has now been removed for the River Thames at Purley Village.
The chairman of Purley Parish Council, Rick Jones, said residents in the village were slowly getting back to normality following heavy flooding.
He estimated that up to 150 properties had been affected, having been flooded, had damage caused to gardens or garages or been so surrounded by floodwater that they were virtually trapped in their homes.
He added that the forecasts for further periods of heavy rain were not a surprise.
“We are very conscious that we are only at the beginning of the winter,” he said. “We have probably got two months to go before we can relax.
“Everyone knows that it could happen again.”
