West Berks diabetic volunteers needed to help others

The charity is calling on people to join its network of campaigners, Diabetes Voices, to make others more aware of the condition and improve their access to care.
Analysis by the charity showed that just 34 per cent of people with diabetes in West Berkshire are getting the nine National Institute for Clinical Excellence-recommended checks and services they need to manage their condition. This means West Berkshire is performing below average, as nationally 54 per cent of people with diabetes receive these checks.
Diabetes UK south east regional manager Jill Steaton said: “This is a great opportunity for local people to really make a difference to diabetes care in West Berkshire.
“Diabetes is a very serious condition and yet many people in West Berkshire are not getting the care and support they need.
“We want to work with local people in West Berkshire to ensure everyone with diabetes in the area gets all the checks and the support they need to manage their diabetes and so has the best possible chance of a long and healthy life.”
