West Berks dogs win at crufts
Captain, a five-year-old Cesky terrier, picked up the coveted best of breed award and best dog award at this year’s competition in which more than 25,000 dogs competed for awards at Birmingham’s NEC, presented by the Kennel Club.
Proud owner Jane Withers, aged 64 from Frilsham, said: “He did really well. He is a very jolly chap and loves going to shows.
“He is a well-travelled dog, with friends and homes in Belgium, France, Luxembourg, Switzerland and the Netherlands and is an international winner.
“I love him to bits and I’m so pleased to have picked up best of breed with him.”
There was a double success for Ms Withers as Captain’s daughter, Hello Dolly, won the award for special junior bitch.
Ms Withers, a breeder at Granary Kennels, has attended Crufts for over 30 years and has seen many of her entries win prizes but she said Crufts was extra special.
“It’s the largest and best organised dog show in the world and you spend the whole year at other shows trying to qualify.”
Another pleased pooch was Misty, a seven-year-old Rough Collie who won Best of Breed.
Misty is currently being cared for by Margaret Jones, aged 72, from Hermitage, who said: “I’m over the moon and delighted as it was completely unexpected.”
Mrs Jones has been showing Misty for three years and this is not Misty’s first win as she was voted collie of the year in January by the British Collie Club.
Mrs Jones, who has been going to Crufts for 20 years, said: “Misty is sweet natured and a delight to have.”
