West Berks schoolboys share role in Watermill production

Goring Primary School pupil Rhydian Watson, aged 10, Daniel Pinnock, aged 12, from The Downs School, George McBratney, aged 10, from St Finian’s, and 11-year-old Alexander McQuillan from Trinity, will each perform for one week during the four-week run.
A total 24 boys competed in open auditions for the part and then 12 auditioned in front of director Douglas Rintoul, before the final four were selected.
All admitted to nerves prior to the audition, but enjoyed the experience:
“We had a go at doing an American accent which was tricky at first but I got the hang of it,” said Rhydian.
The young actors have all performed in school productions before, but this will be their first time on a professional stage, with a view to learning more about an acting career.
Alex said, “I’m really excited, it’s a privilege to be in the show here.”
They are now working hard on learning their lines, perfecting their accents and are rehearsing twice a week with the rest of the company at The Watermill.
Daniel’s mother Gillian said that his family, including his three grown-up sisters, aunts and uncles, were all very proud and planning to get tickets to go and see him in the play, but not all on the same night.
The 12-year-old remained unfazed at the prospect of family members among the audience.
“He says he will only see people in the front row, so it won’t worry him,” said Mrs Pinnock.
She said that The Watermill cast and production staff had been “fantastic” and very supportive.
All My Sons runs until Saturday, March 22 Tickets: £14.50 to £26, to book telephone (01635) 46044 or visit www.watermill.org.uk
