West Berks swimmers help raise more than £2.3m for charity
The swimathon was a national fundraising event run by Parkwood Community Leisure run pools and local centres taking part included Northcroft Leisure Centre, Newbury, Kennet Leisure Centre, Thatcham, Hungerford Leisure Centre and Willink Leisure Centre in Burghfield.
These were just four out of the 645 pools taking part nationwide.
More than 26,000 people of all ages and abilities throughout the UK swam their way through individual and team challenges, ranging from distances of a mile to 5km.
General manager for Parkwood Community Leisure in West Berkshire, Alex Godfrey, said: "We are delighted that so many people in West Berkshire and the surrounding area’s took part, and thrilled with how much money we were able to raise for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
"Swimathon Weekend was a really fun event to organise, and it brought out a fantastic community spirit at the pool, with teams of work colleagues, friends and families as well as individual swimmers.
"We are looking forward to being part of Swimathon next year and an even bigger turnout.”
Funds raised will be donated to Marie Curie Cancer Care and locally £12,000 was raised with each swimmer raising on average at least £80.
Nationally, about £2.3million was raised.
