Fergus Mitchell, aged 12, who attends Thorngrove School in Highclere, recently wrote a letter to international singer/songwriter, Beyoncé, who, as previously reported int he Newbury Weekly News, is currently staying in a village on the Berkshire/Hampshire border during the Northern European leg of her Mrs Carter Show world tour.
His letter, welcoming Beyoncé, said that he hoped she was enjoying the area’s beautiful surroundings and that he hoped she could spare some time to visit his school.
About a week after receiving his letter, one of the representatives of the Grammy award winning superstar arived at the school in The Mount armed with gifts including a t-shirt and programme from her tour.
Fergus, who is in year 8 at the school and described himself as a big Beyoncé fan, said: "I really wanted Beyoncé to visit our school and talk to us all to inspire us.
"Yes it was a surprise, I knew nothing about it and was genuinely shocked. When I got off the minibus I had no idea what was going on.
"It was all very surreal at the time.
"I was glad that my letter meant something to her and was grateful that she had taken time to even read it."
Adding that it was a moment he would never forget, he said: "Not only is she a world renowned artist but obviously a really caring, kind and thoughtful lady."
A source close to Beyoncé said: "I think she was touched by the fact that someone local had welcomed her to the village.
"We thought it was really cute."
About a month ago, the Newbury Weekly News reported that not only had Beyoncé been spotted shopping in Newbury Retail Park at the end of April but that she had given fans tickets to one of her concerts.
It was also reported that the star was staying in a village on the Berkshire/Hampshire border where residents have been sworn to secrecy while she completed the Northern European leg of her Mrs Carter Show world tour.
